Bray is one of the `Dirtiest Towns in Ireland' - Survey

Bray is one of the dirtiest towns in Ireland….and that's official. A survey carried out by An Taisce and Irish Business Against Litter showed that Bray falls into the `Heavily Littered' category and typical examples of litter found were cigarette butts, sweet papers, dog fouling, chewing gum, bottles and ATM bank dockets.
Today, Fine Gael Deputy Billy Timmins said that following the results of this survey, the `Garden of Ireland' should be re-named `Dirty Wicklow' and added that something will have to be done about the litter problem in the county.
`Its obvious to everybody who lives in Bray that litter is a terrible problem. At the moment there is only one litter warden in the whole county and it is not enough. I believe that if we had more wardens it would deter people from littering', he added.
Deputy Timmins pointed out that Wexford came second in the survey and is classified as having a litter free status. `If they can do it then why can't we? Wicklow is supposed to be the Garden of Ireland but this survey certainly does not reflect that title. Maybe if we re-named the county `Dirty Wicklow' it would shame residents into cleaning up their act', he said.
