`Spiderman' disappears with Dog from Monkey SanctuaryJune 18th, 2002By Tony Murphy Spiderman may be packing out cinemas at present but he is not too popular with the owners of Wicklow's monkey sanctuary. For the real life version of the screen favourite is suspected of making off from the sanctuary with the owners favourite dog
The 35 year old man, who is known only as Spiderman because half his face is tattooed with a spiders web, has been helping out in the monkey sanctuary in Rathdrum for the past few months. However, he disappeared in the past few days and so did `Yo-Yo', a Jack Russell with distinctive marks that itself was taken into care by sanctuary owner, Willie Heffernan. Said an angry Willie yesterday - `I told him last Friday that he was no longer suited to the type of work required here so he just left with `Yo-Yo' who is adored by everyone here not least her five pups'. And he now wants to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of `Spiderman' and `Yo-Yo'. `There will be no problem
According to Willie, `Spiderman' originally comes from the south of England but has been living a nomadic existence. `We rely on volunteers here and normally we have no problem with them but I am extremely angry with Spiderman for taking `Yo-Yo' with him'. Anyone with information can phone Willie Heffernan at 086-8447183. The sanctuary is Ireland's first and only haven for monkeys who have spent up to 10 years in laboratories in England for experimental purposes before being rescued by Willie.
