today. Deputy Roche had been widely tipped for a ministerial post following his high profile in the last Dáil and his poll-topping performance in Wicklow.
Deputy Roche's first task in his new position will be the preparations for a second referendum on the NICE Treaty, expected in the Autumn. Following the election of 11 TDs from the Green Party and Sinn Féin, both opposed to the Nice Treaty, it is expected that the government will be in for a difficult time in getting the treaty accepted.
The fate of Rathdrum TD Joe Jacob, previously Minister of State for Public Enterprise, is still uncertain. While only two junior minister's were announced today, other announcements may follow.
