Bray Urban District Council has unveiled plans to make Bray much more pedestrian-friendly - while helping car traffic move more freely as well. The plan, now available for public consultation,

includes the redesign of the Main Street in favour of pedestrians, the creation of more bus lanes and better access for pedestrians to the Seafront from the town centre.
The plan was developed by traffic consultants and was commissioned by the council as a result of increasing traffic congestion in the town, where it can take up to 30 minutes to drive down the Main Street. Since projections showed that by 2006 there would be 80% more cars on the roads of Bray it was clear that something had to be done. According to councillor Pat Vance, business in Bray town centre has not grown at the same rate as the population of the town, suggesting that Bray residents are avoiding the town due to traffic and parking difficulties.
The new plan is the first step in a public consultation process in which all residents and business people in the town are encouraged to participate.
