Record hits at WicklowToday.com

The months of May and June have seen WicklowToday.com break several records with the popular Wicklow website generating over 150,000 full page impressions ('hits') during this time. The month of May, with just over 81,000 hits, was the busiest month ever for WicklowToday, with the general election campaign and dramatic one week count between Nicky Kelly and Mildred Fox

boosting ratings. June saw a dip to 71,239 hits, normal for the time of year. Website hits follow a cyclical pattern, dipping over Christmas and during the summer time as people spend more time away from computers at work and college.

The number of different people visiting WicklowToday has given the site another record. In May the website was accessed from 9,826 seperate computers, while in June 8,365 computers contacted our server. It is expected that, in accordance with patterns seen over the last few years activity on the site will decline slightly over the summer before picking up again in September. Ironically the recent bad weather has likely contributed to WicklowToday's recent success as it has encouraged people to spend more time on the Internet that they normally would at this time of year.

While most hits are from Ireland, up to 15% of visitors to WicklowToday are from overseas, with some coming from as far afield as Japan, Australia, and even South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands, not very far from the coast of Antartica (please get in touch, whoever you are!). The most popular parts of the site are email, the news, the photograph section and, of course, the noticeboards.

Traffic on the WicklowToday website has increased steadly in the two years it has been online - an age in 'Internet time'. Year on year, hits have steadily increased as more and more Wicklow People use the Internet. WicklowToday was officially launched in October, 2000.
