Witnesses Sought in Relation to Malicious Fire in Roundwood

Gardai in Wicklow have now confirmed that the fire which destroyed a premises in Roundwood on Friday night was started maliciously and they are now looking for information from people who may seen anything suspicious in the area.

The building, which is situated on the Main Street between a shop/petrol station and the local school, is owned by Mr. Robert Miller, the former owner of the Coach House. The premises had been rented to various social groups but was vacated on Friday.
The blaze was discovered late on Friday night and was fought by firemen from Rathdrum who managed to prevent the complete destruction of the building. However, severe damage was caused to the inside of the premises.
Gardai from Wicklow carried out forensic tests on the premises over the week-end and discovered clear evidence that the fire was started maliciously. The full investigation was continuing today as members of the force took statements from some members of the public.
They are anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen suspicious movements in the area on Friday night. Anyone with information may contact the Gardai in Wicklow at 0404-67107.
