Glowing tributes were paid yesterday by members and staff of Wicklow Council to the memory of the late John Mullins, an overseer with the local authority in West Wicklow who died tragically last week.
Leading the tributes, County Manager, Mr. Eddie Sheehy said that the late Mr. Mullins was a man who took pride in his work and he was one person who could always be counted upon to get the job done. He was also the first port of contact for many people in the area.
Mr. Sheehy explained that the late Mr. Mullins began working with the Council in 1983, building houses in Newtown, Kilcoole and Glenealy. He then moved to the Blessington area as an overseer.
Councillor Jim Ruttle said that the late Mr. Mullins was a top class official who was highly effective in his work. However, he condemned rumours that circulated in relation to Mr. Mullins, describing them as a case where common decency was transgressed.
`A lot of us here are very concerned at the frenzy of accusations that have been made and sadly now, one staff member lies in Donard graveyard.
Deputy Billy Timmins also praised the late Mr. Mullins and said that certain information that circulated in the media was totally inaccurate.
