By Tony Murphy

A key figure who played a major role in bringing industry to County Wicklow was honoured by the local authority last week to mark his retirement. Liam Kearney spent 27 years in promoting industrial development in many counties, particularly Wicklow through his work with the IDA and in later years, Enterprise Ireland.

County Manager, Mr. Eddie Sheehy said that Mr. Kearney was actively involved in the arrival of new businesses to the county. `Many of those successful businesses owe a great debt of gratitude to Liam while we are all indebted to him for the way in which he has promoted the county’, he added.

Mr. Sheehy also talked of Liam’s years with the IDA as a senior officer in its building department. `He encouraged many new businesses at that time which are now firmly established’, he said. The Manager extended every good wish for the future to Liam and his wife Kate.

Liam Kearney said that he spent a lifetime trying to `achieve something’ and he thanked all the people of Co. Wicklow who had helped him along the way to reach his goals.
