The people of Arklow are furious over the fact that they were forgotten
in the Government's free Euro converter handout that was supposed to go
to every household in the country. Local public representatives have been
inundated with angry callers demanding to know why they were omitted.
According to Councillor Nicky Kelly, who says that he was flooded with
calls over the festive and New Year period, the people of Arklow are very

upset about the situation and wonder if they are supposed
to remain with the old monetary system seeing as the Government forgot about
them.
At first it was thought that just a few individuals were omitted but as
neighbours and friends began to talk to each other about the situation
it emerged that nobody had received the free converter.
`I was in touch with the agency that handled the situation for the Government
and the people there are blaming An Post for not including the Arklow
electoral area in the County Wicklow list that was handed to them. They
are also saying that the converters will not be sent out now, said Councillor
Kelly.
`People do not get many free hand outs from the Government and it is
scandalous that the people of Arklow were left out of this one. I don't
care who was to blame for the mistake as long as the commitment to the
people of Arklow is honoured', he added.
