Mayor Appeals Greystones Planning Decision

The Mayor of Greystones, Councillor Derek Mitchell has appealed a decision by Wicklow County Council to grant planning permission to erect industrial buildings in the town. The development is expected to create 1,100 jobs in the area.
Permission was granted to Zapi Properties, the company that made history recently by offering to build an overbridge on the N11 at Kilpedder and recoup the money later from the National Roads Authority.
The same company also agreed to build the Greystones access route from the overbridge to Greystones to bypass Delgany. It was agreed with the Council that the cost involved will be offset against levies that the company may be asked to pay for development in the future.
Councillor Mitchell said that while he welcomes the principle of creating new jobs in the town, he has appealed the permission becaus of the effect that a large roundabout would have on some houses along with the poor architectural effect of having large warehouses closely fronting the main road into the town.
`I am also unhappy about the fact that the permission allows construction of the industrial at the same time as the two roads. The only roads to this area are country lanes and three large construction jobs at one time will create traffic chaos in the Delgany area. they should be built one after the other', said Councillor Mitchell.
He pointed out that Zapi are now appealing the planning conditions to An Bord Pleanala and among their reasons is that they want to be allowed occupy six large logistic buildings without the N11 access road and are also looking for a big reduction in road levies.
