Women from Roundwood who are expected to travel to Baltinglass for a breast check, the cancer screening programme, can now travel to a south Dublin hospital following intervention by Deputy Liz McManus.
The Labour spokesperson on health said today she was concerned that women from Roundwood were told to travel to Baltinglass for their screening and she felt that many of them would lose out on this important service as a result.
`I have lobbied Breastcheck who have now agreed that any women in Roundwood who have been called but cannot attend Baltinglass will be provided for at the breastcheck clinic beside St. Vincent's hospital', said Deputy McManus.
`I strongly urge any woman in this situation to phone Breastcheck and ask for an appointment at the clinic beside St. Vincent's if this suits better. Expecting women from Roundwood to travel to Baltinglass is totally unacceptable when a woman is dependent on public transport', she added.
