neighbouring counties, it is planned to do away with a further 30,000 spaces in the coming year.
Decentralisation of some government departments to other counties has also been cited as a possible reason although there has been no such decentralisation of any great proportions to Wicklow.
However, a plan outlining the benefits of moving to various towns in Co. Wicklow is currently before the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy but it is unlikely that any decision on the matter will be made before the general election.
Considered to be political suicide so close to an election, the Government is reluctant to make any decisions to avoid getting a backlash from towns not included.
However, it is a certainty that a decision will be made by the new Government soon after the election.
