WicklowToday.com Launch Brings County Wicklow Online

(October 23, 2000)

Monday the 16th of October in the Bay Hotel Arklow saw the successful launch of Wicklowtoday.com, enabling a worldwide audience to gain access to one of Ireland's most comprehensive local websites focusing directly on County Wicklow. The honour of pressing the launch button on the night in question was given to five year old Rebecca New, accompanied by two pipers from the Arklow Pipe Band.

Master of Ceremonies Tony Murphy introduced the event while founding partner Graham Caswell extended a warm thanks to all those involved in helping with the launch of Wicklowtoday.com including fellow partners Charlie Warr and Ian & Paul Byrne.

The audience listened attentively as Graham gave an introduction to the Internet and the Wicklowtoday.com website aided by a large screen specially set up for the occasion and with the technical assistance of Paul Byrne on a laptop computer.

As pointed out by Graham in his introductory overview users of WicklowToday can send or receive e-mail, read or post advertisements, or create their own home page - all for free. There is also an online auction facility where sellers can advertise goods for sale stating a minimum bid price and wait for bids to be received. At the end of the auction they are notified of the winning bid and can then arrange the transaction.

The main theme of the Wicklowtoday.com website is to provide a general service for all of County Wicklow. This is done in separate sections for each of the main towns and villages throughout the county, providing information on events and important issues relevant to that area in question. Indeed each of Wicklow's towns and villages has a notice board facility on the website where people can post information concerning their local area.

Graham Caswell also pointed out that an additional service soon to be added will allow Wicklowtoday.com users to download music from local groups and musicians, giving people a convenient way of listing to local music. Thanking everyone for their support, Graham handed over proceedings to Tony Murphy who spoke of the launch of Wicklowtoday.com as a historical event for County Wicklow.

A fantastic evening was had by all with music provided by Feel the Pinch accompanied by Ian Byrne on percussion for a selection of numbers. Wicklowtday.com would like to thank all those who helped with the launch especially Tony Murphy and the management and staff of The Arklow Bay Hotel for all their assistance. We invite all to come and visit our site and send in your views and opinions on whatever topic excites your imagination.
