Arklow Lifeboat to the Rescue

On Thursday evening the Arklow Lifeboat was called out in response to an emergency request from a German registered vessel in difficulties south east of Arklow. An Aer Corp helicopter was also called to the scene but was later stood down. The seventeen-ton vessel got into

difficulties ten miles south east of the Arklow bank and raised the alarm at about five-o clock. The exact nature of the ship's problems was not known at the time and there were no reports of injuries on board.
The acting spokesperson for the Arklow lifeboat Mr Tommy Hickson said that the Lifeboat was at the scene and was awaiting the arrival of a tugboat from Rosslare harbour. On its arrival the German vessel would be towed to safer waters and the Arklow Lifeboat would assist in whatever capacity necessary. The situation at the time did not necessitate the Aer Corp helicopter's assistance and they returned to base. There is a five-man crew aboard the vessel.
