N11 Footbridge Requires Safety Gates

November 11th, 2000

Concerns have again been expressed over the pedestrian bridge at Kilmacanogue County Wicklow, which residents say is unsafe as small children can cross the bridge unhindered and get out onto the other side of the busy N11 roadway. Wicklow County Council has apparently ignored their promises to the residents of Rochfield Park and Carrigoona Close to provide a gate shutting off access to the footbridge to children.

Independent Deputy Mildred Fox has called the entire situation unacceptable and insists that the council should honour their promise to provide the gate as previously requested by the residents of Rockfield Park and Carrigoona Close estates. She has drawn the Councils attention to the matter on several occasions but no action has taken to date. The situation is just not acceptable to local residents who are annoyed at the council's behaviour.

The fact that the council has ignored the resident's request has only inflamed the issue. "The people living in the village are entitled to have the safety of their children given a high priority. I want to see the basic safety measures requested in place immediately and would like to know why this has not been done already" declared Deputy Fox.
