Deadline for Flood Relief

December 4th, 2000

Just four days remain for victims of the recent floods to submit applications to the Red Cross for assessment for compensation against damage caused to their property and goods. Damage estimated to be in the millions was caused recently in County Wicklow to private and public property when rivers and streams burst their banks and flooded large areas of the County. However the decision to place the Red Cross in control of the assessments has met with criticism from some public representatives.

The Government would appear to be back peddling on what can be described as the worst floods


Flood Damage Victims Forgotton
in living memory declared local Arklow councillor Nicky Kelly. He pointed out that those who have suffered the most are confused at the amount of Bureaucracy that has now been placed in their way. Some of the victims cannot presently live in their homes due to the extent of the damage incurred. .
