Launch of Drink Driving Campaign

Large numbers of The Garda Siochana gathered in County Wicklow for the launch of the drink driving campaign, which started today, throughout the country. The campaign promises to be one of the most comprehensively enforced operations that the force has undertaken and warnings have been issued against trying to evade the net that will spread throughout County Wicklow.

caught by driving on back roads. " People who think they will evade checkpoints by driving on secondary routes will more than likely get themselves caught" warned the Garda Sargent. He went on to point out that Checkpoints around the county will be numerous.
New fines of up to £1000 pounds can be given out by the courts and people can be made do their driving test again should the court feel it necessary to impose such a condition. The half million pound campaign will target those who have not got the message and continue to flaunt the law while driving under the influence of alcohol. A large number of Garda motor bikes gathered in Arklow today at about lunchtime in preparation for active duty this evening. The message is do not drive and drink.
