Christmas Shopping Spree Under Way
December 18th, 2000
The annual Christmas shopping rush was reported as being somewhat slow up until last weekend when retailers throughout the towns and villages in County Wicklow noticed an upturn in activity. Bray in the north of the county reported very heavy retail activity with consumers trying to get their Christmas shopping wrapped up and out of the way before the final traditional last week rush.
Greystones and Arklow also reported heavy trading with no apparent shortage of money about and luxury goods such as personal computers and computer games in good demand. The initial slow pattern was also broken in Wicklow town as shoppers crowded into the town centre in search of Christmas presents and other essentials for the festive holiday. However people are being warned against overspending and are being advised not to buy on compulsion but to look around and be aware of letting credit card spending get out of control.
