Arklow Supermarket Robbery
November 25th, 2000
A small supermarket in Arklow was the target of an attempted robbery on Friday morning when a masked raider entered its premises and attempted to rob the business. While details are still sketchy the robber is described as about 5'-9" tall and had a strong local accent. He apparently was unsuccessful in his attempt at stealing cash or goods and made his escape on a mountain bike.
Arklow Garda station could not elaborate in any further detail other than the fact that nobody was hurt in the incident. The supermarket in question is located at the entrance of Saint Peters Place on the Coolgreany road in Arklow town. The assailant was wearing a hood over his head at the time of the robbery and was brandishing a gun when he entered 'Eileens' mini-market. The sole female member of staff refused to hand over cash and confronted the robber who eventually fled the building.
